The Met's Amazing Collection

This morning I was browsing through New York's Metropolitan Museum's digital collection database. According to their website, the Costume Institute has a collection of over 31,000 costumes and accessories! They have so many amazing pieces- I had to share!
Rudi Gernreich, 1967
These two dresses are my personal favorite! The cut outs are still futuristic even 40+ years later!

Yohji Yamamoto, S/S 1993.
Such a fantastic knit! I am so crazy for this dress.
Alexander McQueen. “Oyster Dress,” S/S 2003.
Richard Tam for House of Balenciaga, 1968.
Salvatore Ferragamo, 1938.
These platforms have always been a favorite of mine. The design was so modern for it's time.

As Four, 2003
Christian Lacroix, 2005
Philip Treacy for Alexander McQueen. “Chinese Garden” S/S 2005.
Hussein Chalayan. “Remote Control Dress,” S/S 2000
Jean Paul Gaultier, S/S 2001.
Madame Grès, 1960's
Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci. S/S 2007.

$1 Couture

I recently entered Chictopia's contest, Chictopia10. It is an amazing opportunity to attend their conference in New York during Fashion Week. Here is what I wrote for my entry:

"I love Chictopia because it is a creative medium of expression for me. It’s an opportunity to present my ideal of fashion, my influences and discoveries. I love hearing the feedback from Chictopia members and viewing their styles as well. I’m positively influenced by you Chictopians! Together we are a group where we can be ourselves, and be accepted for it. Thanks for a great year of inspiration and support!"

The dress I am wearing was a vintage eBay find. It was only $1, seriously! It is all handmade of wool, with incredible details. It was truly an amazing, one of a kind find.
I am not quite sure what era this is from. I'm thinking 1980's? If anyone knows of a website that is all about vintage garments, please let me know! I would love to dedicate a website to the beauty of vintage pieces.

My good friend, Lenny Gilmore took this photos for me. Please visit his website!

sixties

I absolutely love everything about the 1960's. The clothes, the trends, the music, the decor... There was so much originality.

The 60's Harness

I’ve owned this vintage harness/necklace for so long now. My grandma gave it to me about 5 years ago- I believe it was a relatives from the 1960’s. It is an amazing piece! I’ve always been perplexed on how to incorporate it into my wardrobe, until now. I haven't been able to find any other belts/necklace pieces quite like this!

Express jacket, H&M knit dress, vintage harness, eBay thigh high boots, Target sunglasses

Rodarte for Target: Lace Print

These two Rodarte pieces magically showed up at my Target, on-sale. The fabric of the dress feels similar to silk crepe, it’s really pretty.
Rodarte for Target lace dress, Seychelles wedges, vintage jewelry/gloves

Normally I don’t wear t-shirts but this one is an exception. It came with a bow, which I attached my pearl necklaces. I got a few other Rodarte pieces- leopard print dress & swiss blue tulle dress. Not quite sure if I’m keeping them though.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Katey! I'm in my 20's and I'm quite fabulous and quite lazy. I have a huge passion for vintage- I mainly collect dresses from the 1940's-1970's. A majority of my posts will not only be fashion related but music as well, as my style is hugely influenced by music. You might already read my fashion blog on Chictopia where I'm known as daisygirl89.
